WKU student Courtney McAdams has been selected as the 2017 recipient of the William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Scholarship Award from the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).

McAdams, a graduate student from Hazel Green, Alabama, will receive the award during the NIRSA Annual Conference and Expo March 4-7 in Denver, Colorado.

McAdams works for WKU’s Department of Intramural-Recreational Sports. McAdams, who is pursuing a master’s degree in Sports Management, is a graduate assistant for Facilities.

The William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Scholarship Award recognizes students who are outstanding leaders on their campuses and who participate or are employed by their institution’s intramural-recreational sports department.

Since 2006, 12 undergraduate students and six graduate students at WKU have received the Wasson Award, the highest award NIRSA presents recognizing the outstanding leadership and scholarship of a student member. Only 12 graduate students and 24 undergraduate students throughout the country are recognized by NIRSA each year.

In addition to the Wasson award, the NIRSA Foundation has awarded McAdams with a Foundation Scholarship for her outstanding accomplishments at WKU and the NIRSA in the areas of scholarship, leadership and service. McAdams had the highest GPA (4.0) among the graduate students considered for the foundation scholarship and also serves as the Kentucky Student Representative for the NIRSA. She is also a finalist for the NIRSA Region II Scholarship and Leadership Grant which the recipient will be announced in January 2018.
