Big Red lives green at WKU! Housing & Residence Life encourages all residents to engage in sustainable practices and opportunities, from simply remembering to turn off the lights and unplug cords, to donating items at the end of the year during "Lighten Your Load" to be donated to those in need instead of throwing items in the dumpster. The WKU Office of Sustainability is a great resource if you want to learn about even more opportunities to live green!
The Building Dashboard - Track Your Energy Use
The Building Dashboard was initially implemented students can monitor their hall's energy usage and take part in the effort in reducing WKU's energy consumption. Residence halls can compete against one another during special energy reduction programs to win prizes. Turn off your lights and shoot for the gold!
WKU Energy Kiosk
The WKU Office of Sustainability has partnered with Johnson Controls to implement the WKU Energy Kiosk. WKU students and staff can see WKU's energy use all across campus, from residence halls to academic buildings.
Housing and Residence Life offers several opportunities for students to participate in sustainability initiatives. Each year students in all residence halls compete in "Reduce Your Use" to see which building can use the least amount of energy!
At the end of every academic year, "Lighten Your Load" allows students to donate unwanted items so they don't end up in a landfill. In 2013, students donated a total of 5,778 items, and 1,042 lbs of food. All items and food were donated to the Housing Authority of Bowling Green to assist the approximately 30 families they serve.
With everyone's help, we can make WKU, and the world, more than just a place to live!
