Welcome to the Department of Computer Science at Western Kentucky University

Computer science is one of the most exciting and rapidly developing of all disciplines. There is the fun stuff, like software used in games and film animation. Then there is the serious side, like the need to protect important information transmitted over public networks.

Between these lie a vast array of professional opportunities. Nearly every organization, from the largest corporation to the smallest non-profit, needs people to support its computing infrastructure. There are many variations in co-op and entry-level positions. Beyond these lie numerous career opportunities, some with a technical or academic flavor, and others more managerial.

Computer science is not always easy. It requires an attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and continue to learn on your own. But the results at the end tend to be well-paid positions with pleasant working conditions. And any labor survey is likely to show computer science-related positions as among the fastest growing areas of employment over the next decade.

We offer degrees at two levels (BS and MS). Our faculty will do their utmost to provide you a firm foundation for your professional development. Please browse through our webpages for more information, and contact us with any questions.  We look forward to you joining us in the Computer Science Department at WKU!
